(Betty) Jeanne Stewart of Speedway IN passed away on April 12, 2021 at the age of 100. She was born Feb. 18, 1921 in Muncie, IN. She graduated from Benjamin Bosse High School in Evansville, then attended the University of Evansville, later transferring to and graduating with a BA from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. She worked for the Air Force as a secretary. She later worked as a legal secretary for the law firm of Young & Young and then as an executive secretary for Union Carbide. She retired at the age of 72. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hester Oral (Swift) Griffith and Charles Anderson Griffith. She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Stewart of Owen County and Judy Stewart and son-in-law Michael Fulton of Brown County.
Jeanne was a lifelong nature lover who enjoyed hiking and who found peace and beauty in the natural world. She was a devoted pet owner who shared her life with many dogs and cats over the years. She enjoyed IU basketball and was a loyal Cincinnati Reds baseball fan. Jeanne was an incredibly kind, strong, intelligent woman, and a loving, inspiring mother.
The family will be holding private graveside services at Crown Hill Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
