BRIGHT SPOT: Local woman sings National Anthem for Final Four

Local viewers of the NCAA’s Final Four game between No. 1 Baylor and No. 2 Houston on April 3 may have seen a familiar face on screen.

Emily Brady was chosen, along with representatives from five other Indiana colleges, to sing the National Anthem before the game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The daughter of Brian and Kim Brady, Emily graduated from Brown County High School in 2015 and went to school at Indiana State University, where she has been a member of the track and field team, specializing in pole vault. She’s now a graduate student at ISU studying exercise science.

This was not her first time singing the anthem on a big stage. She had sung it several times at other athletic competitions, including at the NCAA cross-country championships, which is how she got this opportunity.

“She is incredibly talented and Indiana State is lucky to have her as a representative,” said Angela Martin, ISU track and field program director in a press release.

While in school here, Emily performed solo and with family members on local stages, including the high school auditorium and the Brown County Playhouse.

Performing at the Final Four was “an amazing experience,” she said.

After earning her master’s in May and hopefully getting a job as an exercise physiologist, she plans to continue singing as a hobby.
