New county zoning inspector hired

Brian Faulkner

The office of planning and zoning has a new zoning inspector.

Brian Faulkner started March 22, filling the job Chuck Braden held until he was elected as county commissioner last fall.

The zoning inspector investigates zoning violations, handles zoning inquiries, works with tourist home owners, does accessory building inspections and issues building and sign permits.

Faulkner is no stranger to county government; he’s worked as an animal control officer and he’s been a reserve deputy officer with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department since 2019.

He had previously worked in corporate information technology, with corporations like Apple Computer and Canon USA, but found that the public sector was a “good shift” in his career, he said.

He was drawn to the job in the zoning office due to his interest in the wellbeing of Brown County, he said, making it a family-friendly place and attractive to new businesses.

He and his wife are local business owners themselves. The couple, along with their two children, moved to Brown County in 2015.

“It’s a great place to be, a great place to live,” he said. “I’m interested in the health and wellbeing of the county and look forward to helping individuals and businesses.”
