PEOGA — A 63-year-old Trafalgar man was injured after he crashed his motorcycle while trying to eat chips from a bag on April 27.

Det. Brian Shrader with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department responded to the crash in the 9000 block of Nineveh Road just after 7:30 p.m.

Shrader reported seeing a motorcycle at the bottom of a hill leaned against a guardrail with a man, Alfred Melton, lying next to it, according to an accident report.

Shrader noted that a bag of chips was on the ground next to Melton. Melton had told him he tried taking a bite from his chip bag while driving south on the road when he crashed, the report states.

Melton was driving down a hill when the motorcycle ran off the west side of the road. Shrader reported that there was a drop-off from the asphalt to the ground and that the motorcycle would have been unable to recover after going off the side, the report states.

The motorcycle struck the guardrail and spun around, causing Melton to hit his head on the guardrail. He was transported to a hospital by ambulance for observation and for treatment for a cut to his head.

Melton was not wearing a helmet. His motorcycle was towed.
