Donald D. ‘Don’ Kirts, age 74 passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in Inverness, Florida. He was a resident of Brown County.

Don was born on July 25, 1946 in Nashville to his parents, the late Toby and Mary E. (Allender) Kirts. He was a 1964 graduate of Brown County High School and went on to serve as a Sergeant with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Don retired in 1999 after 30 years of service from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus where he was a Journeyman Maintenance Supervisor. He also retired from Central State Fireworks where he worked as a pyro technician for over 40 years.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Inverness, FL and New Life Community Church in Nashville. Other memberships include the Brown County Lions Club, Brown County Jaycee’s and the Bucks and Does Square Dancing Club. Don enjoyed working in his yard, tending to his vegetable garden, playing golf and bowling. He also enjoyed woodworking. Don loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Phyllis J. (Brand) Kirts, whom he married on January 24, 1969 in Brown County. He is also survived by his children, Donald (Chrissy) Kirts and Elizabeth (W.C.) Miller, both of Brown County; siblings, Nancy Williams of Inverness, FL, Marcus (Nancy) Kirts of Brown County and Robert (Mary) Kirts of St. Mary’s, ID; grandchildren, Cindy Lynn Horton, Alexandria Kirts, Toby Lee Kirts, Nicole Marie Ellis, Cory David Lucas and George E. Miller; great grandchildren, Annabelle Kirts and Devon Horton.

The Rev. Tim Conboy will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with military rites conducted by the United States Air Force and the Greenwood & Whiteland Honor Guards.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made in honor of Don to the Church of the Nazarene "Food Drive" 2101 N. Florida Ave. Hernando, FL 34442.
