Hazardous materials recycling coming in July

The Brown County Solid Waste Management District has earned a grant to put on a hazardous waste collection day this summer.

The district was awarded $14,250 from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s Community Recycling Grant Program.

The hazardous waste collection event will take place in the Brown County High School parking lot in Nashville on Saturday, July 31 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Up to 600 cars can participate.

The types of materials that can be disposed of that day include cleaning chemicals, pesticides, acids, gasoline, solvent paints, light bulbs and motor oil. NuGenesis will conduct the event; the group is trained and licensed in hazardous materials collection and recycling, said BCSWMD Director Phil Stephens.

County council working to update webpage

Brown County Council President Dave Redding and Auditor Julia Reeves continue to update the county council’s webpage at browncounty-in.gov.

Emails for county council members have been updated. The plan is to post minutes, audio and video files from the virtual meetings this year along with documents the council discusses in their meetings.

"If there is anything else people want to see, send me an email and I’ll be happy to get those materials posted here. If there are any concerns, send me an email so I will not lose your request. We will get that information posted," Redding said at the April 19 council meeting.

Redding also asked council members not using their county email addresses to let him know if they wished to retain them because it costs $4 a month per email address to do so. Redding and council member Judy Swift-Powdrill use their county email addresses while others have opted to use personal email accounts.
