A three-vehicle crash on State Road 46 West yesterday afternoon injured three local people, with one woman being flown to a hospital.

The head-on crash was reported just after 4:30 p.m. May 20 near Upper Schooner Road. Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Zaccary Sheppard and Sgt. Colton Magner reported seeing two vehicles with “heavy” front end damage blocking the road, an accident report states.

The report said that a red Toyota Prius went left of center into the westbound lane where it collided with a blue Honda Accord.

Vicki Percifield, 66, of Nashville, was driving the Prius and was still in the vehicle when officers arrived. Two women, 19-year-old Cordelia Callahan and 58-year-old Lisa Callahan, both of Nashville, were lying on the ground near the Accord.

Percifield reporting having pain all over her body and she was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Cordelia Callahan told police she was able to exit the passenger side door. Lisa Callahan, the driver, climbed over the center console and exited the vehicle the same way, the report states.

Cordelia told police all she could remember was the red Prius coming into their lane of traffic. She reported having neck pain, nausea and dizziness.

Lisa was not able to move and reported having pain all over her body. She said she could not breathe, the report states. She was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital. Cordelia was taken by ambulance.

The third vehicle involved was behind the Accord at the time of the crash. That driver, 18-year-old Casey Simmons Jr. of Nashville, reported seeing the Prius cross the center line. A passenger in Simmons’ vehicle said the brake lights came on on the Accord as the Prius continued into the westbound lane, colliding with the Accord.

The passenger said Simmons locked up his brakes to avoid the collision, but the car slid into the eastbound lane and collided with the Prius, too.

Simmons and his passenger were not injured. Simmons’ vehicle had minor damage.

The Accord and Prius were towed from the scene.

Traffic was backed up in the area of State Road 46 West last night due to the crash.
