The fire in the 9800 block of Green Road was reported just before 5 a.m. May 23. Firefighters were on scene until almost 8 a.m. and were back out about four hours later putting out a rekindle, said Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Arlan Pierce.

Hamblen Fire was on the scene of the rekindle for another four hours. That morning, Hamblen Fire requested water from Johnson County and was assisted by the tanker brigade in Johnson County, of which Hamblen Fire is a part. Tankers came from Trafalgar, Bargersville, Whiteland, Amity, Edinburgh and Nineveh.

Pierce said the home was "totally gone."

The cause is not yet known.

"We’re leaning towards electrical, but we haven’t come to the conclusion yet," Pierce said.

A husband and wife were living in the home. Pierce said they did not want assistance from the Red Cross. He said they were going to receive assistance elsewhere.

Cordry-Sweetwater, Jackson Township and Brown County (Nashville) volunteer fire departments also assisted at the scene.
