William E. ‘Bill’ Boren

William E. ‘Bill’ Boren, age 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, May 26, 2021 at the Brownsburg Meadows. He was a resident of Brown County.

Bill was born May 5, 1937 in Kevil, Kentucky, to his parents, the late Joseph and Ollie Bell (Hobbs) Boren. He was a 1955 graduate of Ballard Memorial High School in LaCenter, Kentucky. Bill went on to serve as a Specialist 2 with the United States Army from 1955 to 1958.

After the service, he started working at the General Motors Truck & Bus Plant in Indianapolis where he retired as a Die Maker after 32 years of service. Bill also served as a Lay Missionary for 6 years in Arizona and Kentucky. He was a member of the Cottonwood Christian Church in Brown County, United Auto Workers Union, Local 23 in Indianapolis and the Brown County American Legion Post. Bill enjoyed woodworking, working in his yard and traveling. He was a fan of Indiana University Men’s Basketball and loved caring for his dogs, Katie and Jenna.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Norma Jean (Scarvie) Boren, whom he married on June 10, 1978 in Martinsville. He is also survived by his children, Sharon Brady of Brownsburg, Joe Boren of Indianapolis, William Edward (Kris) Boren Jr. of Clermont and Karen Boren of Batavia, OH; step-daughters, Laura (Danny) Groninger of Plainfield, Nancy (Tom) Glatt of Anthem, AZ and Brenda Cole of Speedway; foster daughter, Cathy Stevens of Martinsville; siblings, Wayne Boren of Wiseman, AR and Francis McEarl of Henderson, TN; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Joe Boren Jr., Marie Davis, Josie Elizabeth Winters, Jane Smith and Barbara Rust; and a daughter in law, Sherri Boren.

The Rev. Darrel Miller will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cottonwood Christian Church, 2523 Cottonwood Road in Brown County. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Lanam Ridge Cemetery in Brown County. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
