Milton “Barney” Barnett, 90, of Columbus, Indiana passed away May 30, 2021. He was born April 1, 1931 in Casey County, Kentucky to the late Howell and Ruby (Baldock) Barnett Chilton.
Barney was a proud United States Army veteran, who served in Germany from 1954 – 1956 where he earned the rank of Sergeant First Class. When he returned from overseas he went to work for General Motors – Allison as a machine repairman for 43 years before retiring. He also owned Barnett Mobile Lock Service in Brown County. Barney was a very active member of the Shriners and many other community organizations. He also enjoyed golf and fishing and was quite the jokester. Never one to sit still, Barney would go out dancing once a week before COVID hit last spring. He was well loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
Barney is survived by his children, Nancy (Richard) Kusky, Barbara (Bert) Williams, and stepdaughter, Kathy Sink (Roger Day), ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara (Tom) Wolfe, and Shirley Manning; many nieces and nephews, and his very special companion, Valerie “Jean” Gray.
In addition to his parents, Barney is preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Armstrong; sister, Norma Mills, two stepbrothers, and a stepsister.
Family will receive friends Monday, June 7 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana 46143. Barney’s life will be honored Tuesday June 8 at 11:00am, also at Forest Lawn.
