Charles David Jr., 95, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 10:35 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. David was born in Brown County, Indiana, May 21, 1926, the son of Charles David Sr. and Blanch Edna Hutchison David. On December 28, 1946, Charles married Maxine R. Hinds; she preceded him in death November 11, 1997.
Mr. David was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. David was a general foreman for Cummins Engine Company retiring in 1985 after 37 years of service. After retirement, he continued to be a consultant for Cummins for several years.
Mr. David was a former member of the East Columbus United Methodist Church and was currently a faithful member of the First Baptist Church. A horseman, Mr. David loved horses and horseback riding. Earlier in life, he worked in the stables at the Horseman’s Camp in Brown County State Park. He made several trips to Estes Park, Colorado to go to the Lane Guest Ranch to ride horses and he later became a trail leader at the ranch. One of his true passions in life was meticulously caring for his yard and he enjoyed fishing.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Floyd Edward (Patricia) David of Columbus, James (Dr. Blanca) David of Anderson, Indiana and Valery Jane Dilsizian of Columbus; his significant other, Emily Mabe of Columbus; grandchildren, Jennifer Dawn Rogers of Bloomington, Indiana, James David Jr., Scott (Annette) Kilby of Nashville, Indiana, and Jamie (John) Campbell of Americus, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Tyler John and Joshua Steven Corrie, Rachel, Nathan, Hunter, and Levi Kilby, and Cody Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. David was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Carl, James, Donald, Gayle, and Kenneth David; and sister, Pauline Brown.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at First Baptist Church; Dr. Daniel Cash will officiate. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Mask are recommended at the funeral home and church.
Mr. David will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Garland Brook Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Online condolences and special memories may be shared with the family at barkesweaverglick.com.
