1. Paving is set to start on Monday, June 14 on three county roads: Becks Grove from State Road 135 South to the county line, Mt. Liberty from Bellsville Pike to Rinnie Seitz, and Lick Creek south of Cottonwood to State Road 45. These are the projects that didn’t get done in 2020. See story for more.

2. Five county bridges are also getting work by November, on Sprunica, Christianburg, Lower Schooner, Hurdle and Grandview roads. See story for more.

3. Brown County recorded a two new COVID deaths at the end of May, the first in more than a month. Those people died on May 27 and 30, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. This brings our cumulative death total to 43. The county’s virus spread status dropped to blue, the lowest level on June 2. The county picked up five new cases between Tuesday, June 1 and Monday, June 7. Our vaccinated percentage was almost 41 percent as of June 4.

4. State Road 45 will be closed near Morrison Road starting on or after June 7 for about three weeks so that a “small structure” can be replaced. This is part of a $1.2 million state rehabilitation contract that also includes a bridge deck overlay on State Road 135 over Bean Blossom Creek. Both projects are expected to be complete by the end of August.

5. The hours for the COVID-19 testing site at the Brown County Music Center, 200 Maple Leaf Boulevard, have changed to Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The building will be closed daily from noon to 1 p.m. The testing site will remain at the music center through the month of June; then, it will move to 200 Hawthorne Drive. Testing appointments are required through scheduling.coronavirus.in.gov. COVID-19 vaccinations will continue to be given Tuesdays through Saturdays at the music center until the end of June, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
