Police: Man died after falling off home’s deck

A 65-year-old Brown County man was found dead by his family last week after police say he fell from a deck to a hillside below.

On June 2, police and EMS were dispatched to the 2800 block of Clay Lick Road after a family member of Brent Anderson had arrived at his home and found him deceased, an incident report from Sgt. Colton Magner states.

Police and EMS found Anderson lying on a hillside near his small cabin. Magner noted that the railing on the cabin’s deck was broken and had fallen to the ground, which was “well below” the level of the deck, the report states. Magner estimated he had fallen 8 to 10 feet.

It was determined that the last contact anyone had with Anderson was May 30. Police believe he fell and passed away later that day.

Magner also noted there was no lighting at the cabin and that it was reasonable to believe Anderson stumbled into the railing before falling.

Coroner Earl Piper said the cause of death was blunt force injuries and the manner was accidental. “No outside force had anything to do with it,” he said.

Piper also did a toxicology report and those results will be available in the next couple of weeks.
