Register kids for soccer with parks and rec

Brown County Parks and Recreation, 902 Deer Run Lane, will start the 2021 soccer season in August. Registration is now open and closes Friday, July 16.

The cost is $55 for ages 3 to 8 and $60 for 9- to 13-year-olds.

Practices begin the first week of August. Games will be on weeknights and Sunday afternoons.

Swim workshops, new classes starting at Y

The Brown County YMCA, 105 Willow St., will hold a variety of classes and sessions through July.

A weeklong summer swim workshop begins Monday, July 19, with a swim meet on Friday, July 23. Levels are:

  • Advanced swim: Water-safe swimmers 6 and older who want to further their understanding of the sport, focusing on stroke technique and endurance; $42 for members, $60 for nonmembers; 3 to 4 p.m. daily
  • Intermediate swim: Swimmers 3 and older who love and are comfortable with being submersed, learn survival techniques; $35 for members, $50 for nonmembers; 4 to 4:30 p.m. daily
  • Beginner swim: For swimmers 3 to 5 years old who need water safety training with a goal to create a positive association with water; $35 for members, $50 for nonmembers; 4:30 to 5 p.m. daily

Financial aid is available. Anna Hofstetter and Nichelle Allender will instruct participants. Children are to be suited up and waiting on the pool deck at lesson start time. Parents and guardians must remain on YMCA property throughout the lesson but not in the aquatic center.

The swim meet on July 23 invites families to watch swimmers’ progress Advanced swimmers will showcase various strokes in a series of races. All swimmers will receive an award for their work.

Class session five at the Y began June 28 and goes through July 31. Tabata, yoga, swim classes and more are available to members and nonmembers.

Two golf fundraisers happening next month

Two golf fundraiser benefits will happen in July at Salt Creek Golf Retreat, 2359 State Road 46 East:

  • Brown County Shop with A Cop Charitable Foundation will have a golf scramble on Sunday, July 18 at 2 p.m. The cost is $50 per person or $200 for a team. Hole sponsor signs are being sold for $50 each. All proceeds benefit the Shop With a Cop program.   • Another golf tournament will happen on Sunday, July 25 for a local Vietnam veteran who is battling cancer. All money raised will benefit the individual.
