PET TAILS: Mark your calendar for the annual Barn Sale

0

The biggest and best Barn Sale is coming your way this summer!

The Brown County Humane Society is pleased to announce that this year’s Barn Sale will take place on Aug. 12-14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Because of the amazing experience we had there last year, we will once again be at the Olde Time Flea Market at 5400 State Road 46 East in Nashville. The flea market is on the south side of 46 about 5.5 miles east of downtown.

This event is a huge fundraiser for the animals at the shelter. All proceeds from the Barn Sale go directly to care for the shelter animals. It pays for the food they eat, the medications they need, the utilities to keep the building going and for the great care given by the staff. The amount raised is solely dependent on the donations provided by the public. The more high-quality items we receive, the more money for the animals! In previous years, the barn sale has raised over $40,000!

For previous Barn Sales, people have generously donated large items, like cars, kayaks, campers and boats. If you have a high-value item to donate, please call Sue Ann at 317-727-4134 to make arrangements for drop-off.

All donations to the Barn Sale will be accepted at the Olde Time Flea Market on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 6 and 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday and Monday, Aug. 8 and 9 from noon to 4 p.m. New and gently used smaller items that sell well include: furniture, rugs, antiques, collectibles, toys, jewelry, housewares, kitchen appliances, sports gear, bikes, tools, arts and crafts, artwork and decorations. We are unable to accept clothes, shoes, mattresses, tube TVs, older computers and electronics, older exercise equipment, car seats, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, pianos/organs, older entertainment centers or items that are not in working order.

If you would like to make this event a success for the animals, in addition to donating your gently used treasures, there are several ways to volunteer. Every single item that is donated is individually priced — that is thousands and thousands of pieces!

In addition to helping price, we need heavy lifters/movers, people who enjoy creating nice displays for shoppers, and those who like to organize donated items. Even if you only have a few hours to help, that would be greatly appreciated!

These activities take place Aug. 6-11 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Contact our community relations manager, Megan, at 317-946-8235 or [email protected] to sign up.

Another way to help is to volunteer your time during the sale. You can help display merchandise and assist customers. It is great fun to help people find wonderful new treasures! Contact Megan to sign up for that, too.

And finally, if you love shopping at yard sales, this is truly the biggest and best in Brown County. Shop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 12-14. Just a tip: It is nearly impossible to see every item for sale the first day, so shopping multiple days is encouraged!
