Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5 in the lower level of the Brown County Community Foundation, 209 N. Van Buren St., or via Zoom.

The guest speaker will be Kirk Bouchie, district governor for the 32 Rotary clubs in southern Indiana. Bouchie will discuss the theme for the new Rotary year which began July 1, “Serve To Change Lives,” and goals and plans for clubs in southern Indiana to participate in this theme.

Bouchie is general manager of Vincennes Water Utility. Previously, he had 24 years of banking experience as a commercial lender and bank president. He earned an associate degree in business administration from Vincennes University, and a bachelor’s degree in business economics and public policy and a master of business administration in finance from the Kelley School at Indiana University.

He and his wife, Becky, were born in Vincennes and married when they were 19, the eighth generation of the Bouchie family in Vincennes, dating back to about 1760. They lived in Bloomington, Dallas and Indianapolis before returning to Vincennes in 1987 when he joined the Vincennes Rotary Club. He serves on several boards including Vincennes University Foundation, Knox County Development Corporation, Grouseland Foundation, Vincennes Rotary Foundation, Vincennes Cub League, Vincennes Area Builders Association and Vincennes YMCA.

Kirk is a member of the National Advisory Board of Directors for Babe Ruth League Inc. and is a member of the Indiana Babe Ruth League Hall of Fame. He is the recipient of several awards including the Sagamore of the Wabash in 2004, the 2018 Knox County Chamber of Commerce — C. J. McCormick Community Leader of the Year Award, American Water Works Association Water Wheel Award in 2018, Vincennes Lincoln High School Outstanding Alumni Award in 2004, Knox County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2002, Indiana Jaycees Outstanding Young Hoosier Award in 1996, Vincennes University Recent Outstanding Alumni Award in 1987 and the Lionel D. Edie Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Business Economics at Indiana University.

Veterans meetings

Veterans service organizations of Brown County have various meetings throughout the month, all meeting at Veterans Hall, 902 Deer Run Lane.

  • Vietnam Veterans of Brown County meet on first Wednesdays. The next meeting is Aug. 4 at 7 p.m.
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars meet on second Thursdays. The next meeting is Aug. 5 at 7 p.m.
  • American Legion meets on third Wednesdays. The next meeting is Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.
