VAN BUREN TWP. — A 32-year-old Columbus man was taken to a hospital July 31 for a head injury after a crash on Valley Branch Road.

Nashville Police Officer Lindsey Downing responded to the crash near the Mt. Liberty Road intersection just after 2:30 p.m. Collin Schmidt told police he was driving down the hill and could not stop due to wet pavement before striking a vehicle driven by Janet Kessler, 50, of San Antonio, Texas, the accident report states.

Kessler told officers she was driving straight when she noticed Schmidt’s vehicle losing control. The vehicle struck her. Kessler said it appeared Schmidt was speeding at the time of the collision, the report states.

Downing noted in her report that driving left of center was the primary cause of the crash. She also noted overcorrecting and speeding/weather conditions as contributing circumstances for Schmidt’s vehicle.

Schmidt was taken to a hospital for treatment for a head injury. He was wearing a seat belt.

Kessler refused treatment at the scene for an abrasion on her leg. She also was wearing her seat belt.

Both vehicles were towed.
