Several new classes offered at Y this month

The Brown County YMCA, 105 Willow St., is offering a variety of lessons and classes through August and September.

Swim and gym is available for homeschool students in kindergarten through sixth grade, Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The cost for members is $25 per child and $20 per each additional sibling. The cost for nonmembers is $35 per child and $30 per each additional sibling. There is a $5 fee for daily drop-ins.

The Youth Swim League will meet for six weeks through Sept. 18 on Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Swimmers ages 6 and older are welcome to develop and refine their swim endurance and stroke technique. Swim league is less competitive than traditional swim teams, with one in-house swim meet per session. The cost is $60 for members and $80 for non-members.

Group swim lessons began Aug. 9 and will continue on Saturdays through Sept. 18.

  • Baby and Me, 10:30 to 11 a.m., six month to three years old, $32 for members, $48 for non members.
  • Water Safety, 11 to 11:45 a.m. (beginners, three years and older); noon to 12:45 p.m. (intermediate, four years and older), 1 to 1:45 p.m. (advanced, five years and older), $50 for members, $62 for non members.

Private swim lessons are available at varying times.

Saturday youth fencing began Aug. 14 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The class is open to ages 6 to 12. The cost is $90 for Y members and $110 for non-members for each six-week session. A $20 equipment rental is available through the instructor at the first class.

Free fishing day for kids with special needs

CORDRY-SWEETWATER — The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation will have an event at Sweetwater Lake on Saturday, Aug. 21. The boating and fishing event is open for all children, ages 6 to 18, no matter their disability. Participants must pre-register online at castforkids.org/event/sweetwater. The space is limited to the first 40 children who register.

The C.A.S.T. (Catch a Special Thrill) for Kids Foundation hosts annual fishing and boating events across America to provide children with special needs a quality outdoor recreational experience.

Participants receive a free fishing pole, tackle box, event T-shirt, cap, award plaque and lunch. A morning of fishing will be followed by a picnic lunch for all and an awards ceremony for the kids.

Volunteer boaters will be taking the kids out. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the boat. If boat space allows, additional siblings and family members may be able to go boating as well; however, only participants and one parent or guardian are guaranteed to go boating.

Indoor soccer league for kids to meet

Parkview Church of the Nazarene, 1750 State Road 46 East, will host an indoor soccer league for kids ages four years old through third grade.

There will be two divisions, one for four-year-olds through kindergarten and one for first through third graders. All players must be four years old by Aug. 1, 2021.

All games will be held on Saturdays. After each game there will be a small devotional read by each coach.

Each player must provide their own shin guards and tennis shoes. There is no need for cleats since the games are indoors.

The registration fee is $20 per, player and is due Saturday, Aug. 28. Register in person on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon or Saturday, Aug. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m.
