TRIAD reports volunteer work from first half of year

TRIAD — The Right Information and Direction — is a group of senior volunteers working through the Brown County Sheriff’s Department. From January 2021 through June 2021, 1,213 volunteer hours were completed and 6,094 personal miles were driven.

Personal visits were hated in March 2020 and were replaced with phone visits. Visits resumed at the end of April 2021. Since April, volunteers visited 222 homes, with active phone visits continuing.

Birthday and thank-you cards were sent to TRIAD clients, volunteers and local businesses. Food was picked up from Midwest Food bank in Indianapolis, packaged and delivered to about 30 Brown County families in each of the months.

Regular monthly meetings were at Parkview Church of the Nazarene due to the Law Enforcement Center being closed to the public. Meetings resumed at the LEC in June.

All TRIAD volunteers have been recertified for CPR.

Speakers at the May meeting were from Southern Indiana Center for Independent Living (SICIL) and described their goal of keeping people with disabilities in their own homes.

A grant request was written and submitted to the Brown County Community Foundation for Project Lifesaver, a program that allows for the tracking of at-risk individuals. The grant was awarded and will allow financial assistance for the purchase of electronic bracelets. The program will become active in the second half of 2021.

Easter gifts were delivered to the porches of all TRIAD clients. The TRIAD cookbook is in the final stages of editing.

TRIAD partnered with COAD, St. Vincent de Paul and the Midwest Food Bank to sponsor more than 25 pop-up food pantries since March 2020. More than 200,000 pounds of food have been given to more than 3,000 families. Pantries are expected to continue on a monthly basis.

The annual August picnic has been canceled.

Volunteers for TRIAD are Patty Abrams, Andrea Baker, Roger Brewer, Fran Dugan, Dona Glentzer,  Ken Keller, Priscilla Keller, Hank Marshall, Violet Miller, Marianne Metzelaar, Barb Schade, Warren Schade, Jenny Sue Whetstine, Dick Young and Laura Young. Trainees are Lesley Metcalfe (began in January 2019), Don Whetstine and Joyce Thompson.
