Virtual information sessions for caretakers set

Thrive Alliance will have a virtual information session for “Powerful Tools for Caregivers,” an educational series designed to provide caregivers with the tools needed to take care of themselves and those to whom they provide care. The program helps family caregivers reduce stress, improve self-confidence, communicate feelings better, balance their lives, increase their ability to make tough decisions and locate helpful resources.

Classes consist of six sessions virtually via Zoom every Wednesday, Aug. 25 through Sept. 29, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. For more information or to register, contact Thrive Alliance at 812-372-6918. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.

Multiple programs set at library

The Brown County Public Library ATLAS (At The Library After School) program is from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Kids in Grades 6 and up can stop by the library at 205 Locust Lane in Nashville on Thursday afternoons for after-school activities including art, books, games and snacks with Children’s and Teen Librarian Samantha Hyde.

Homeschool Huddle will be Monday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. for homeschooling parents to learn assistance opportunities from the children’s and teen librarian.

Community development group meets monthly

HELMSBURG — Helmsburg Community Development is a nonprofit group working to redevelop Helmsburg. The group aims to improve infrastructure, revitalize businesses in the area and bring in new homes and families.

The group meets the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Brown County Community Church, 2370 W. Main St. in Helmsburg. The next meeting is Sept. 8.

9/11 educational exhibition to be at library this month

Brown County Public Library will host “September 11, 2001: The Day that Changed the World,” an educational exhibition from the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

The exhibit presents the history of 9/11 and ongoing implications through the personal stories of those who witnessed and survived the attacks. Archival photographs and images from the museum’s permanent collection will be on display.

It will explore the consequences of terrorism on individual lives and communities a the local, national and international level, as well as encourage critical thinking about the legacies of 9/11.

Jeep, motorcycle rally to aid fire department on 9/11

The Brown County Volunteer Fire Department will have a Red Line Ride fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, the local fire department will honor those who lost their lives in the attack with a fundraiser.

The route will begin at the House of Thunder, 4413 State Road 46 East, and travel through Solsberry, Tulip Trestle, Bedford and Story. The event will end with food and music.

The cost is $25 per person and includes one meal ticket. All proceeds go toward the Brown County Volunteer Fire Department.

9/11 memorial bike, walk and run this weekend

HELMSBURG — Jackson Township Fire Department, 4831 Helmsburg Road, will host a bike ride, walk and run benefit on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attack.

The event will be Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m. and benefits America’s 9/11 Ride Foundation and the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department. The cost is $25 per person.

Free legal aid phone clinic set for this week

Legal Aid will conduct a free legal service phone clinic on Tuesday, Sept. 14 for low-income residents of eight Indiana counties, including Brown County.

The clinic will take place from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Callers can expect a 10-minute phone consultation where legal professionals will answer general questions and offer legal information.

Individuals seeking consultation must register by calling Legal Aid at 812-378-0358 on Sept. 14 between noon and 1:30 p.m. A volunteer attorney will return a call to registered individuals between 3 and 5:30 p.m.

Senator’s staff holding mobile hours in Brown County

The staff of Sen. Mike Braun will hold mobile office hours in Brown County on Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Annual antique machinery show set for September

The Brown County Antique Machinery Association (BCAMA) will host its annual show on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17 and 18 at 9 a.m. both days at the Brown County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Local church hosting women’s retreat

New Life Community Church, 1450 State Road 135 North, will host “Your Place in the Journey” on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The guest speaker will be Christy Brink and the event will feature time for worship, fellowship and fun.

Many activities scheduled at goat farm

BELMONT — The Goat Conspiracy, 6022 Kent Road, will host a soap-making workshop on Sunday, Sept. 19 from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Participants will be able to make a batch of soap, leaving with five bars, and taste goat cheeses. Those interested will also be able to tour the farm and meet some of the goats. The cost is $80 and registration is required.

Goat yoga will be Friday, Sept. 17 from 7 to 8 p.m. Participants of all ability levels are welcome. Registration is required.

Goat farm tours are ongoing and can be scheduled at mutual convenience. The cost is $10 per person, $5 for children younger than 12 with a $35 minimum charge. Tours are about an hour long and must be scheduled in advance.

Color Walk to take place on Hard Truth grounds

Brown County Community Foundation will host its Color Walk at Hard Truth Hills, 418 Old State Road 46, on Saturday, Sept. 18 starting at 10:30 a.m.

Participants will start and end at Hard Truth, walking approximately 1 mile on the distillery’s trails. Color blasts will happen at various points on the trail.

The cost is $15-$20 per person. The event benefits the Brown County School Corporation.

Annual mega sale planned at Parkview church

Parkview Church of the Nazarene will host a Mega Rummage Sale on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Several families will be selling new and used items, baby gear, infant to adult clothing, household items, tools, decor, furniture and more.

The sale will be in the church’s gym building at 1750 State Road 46 East.

Nashville firefighters’ fish tent opening soon

The Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department will serve fish sandwiches, hot dogs, fries, coffee, hot cider, soda and water from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25 to 26, on the courthouse lawn in Nashville.

The fish tent will be open each Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 24.

Annual outdoor sale at Methodist church

Nashville United Methodist Church will host the 47th annual FallFare on Saturday, Oct. 2 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Village Green at Main and Jefferson streets.

Shoppers can find unexpected treasures, handmade goods, art, produce, antiques and more. There also will be a kids carnival, breakfast and lunch. Every FallFare dollar goes toward helping someone in need.

This event will take place rain or shine.

Nashville Farmers Market now open Sundays

The Nashville Farmers Market will be open every Sunday through October from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Brown County Inn parking lot, 51 State Road 46 East.

Shoppers can find seasonal produce grown by local farmers, eggs and baked goods. Various meats are also offered. Local growers will sell shrubs, perennials and annuals for shoppers’ gardens.

Local crafters and artists share their talents in a variety of forms: Handwoven goods, soy and beeswax candles and more. Locally made goat’s milk soaps and bath and body products are also available.

The market doubles SNAP and WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program benefits up to $10 per shopper per week. Stop by the information booth for details.

Local bluebird club selling nesting boxes

The Brown County Bluebird Club’s annual bluebird nest box sale is underway. Boxes are all cedar and fully assembled. One box is $15 and two boxes are $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.
