VALPARAISO, Ind. — A man faces a misdemeanor drug possession charge after authorities said he tried to smuggle a drug used to treat opioid addiction into a northwestern Indiana jail in an eye patch.

He was one of two people caught over the past days trying to sneak suboxone into the Porter County Jail in Valparaiso, the (Northwest Indiana) Times reported Tuesday.

A body scanner at the jail showed the 34-year-old man who was arrested Monday on a warrant had a lighter pinned inside his pants, police said.

Police also said he kept reaching for the eye patch taped to his face and resisted when officers attempted to inspect the patch. They found a small amount of suboxone wrapped in plastic and taped inside the patch.

The man had told them he recently had eye surgery, according to a report.

On Saturday, a 43-year-old woman showed up to the jail for a court-mandated weekend stay.

Police said in a report that she appeared to be under the influence of drugs. A body scan led officers to a plastic bag containing two sleeping pills and an orange powdery substance.

The woman told officers the powder was suboxone and that she had a prescription for it. She faces two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance.
