HONOLULU — Honolulu police on Monday suspended their search for a 6-year-old Hawaii girl who has been missing for more than a week.

An investigation into the whereabouts of Isabella Kalua remained active and detectives were continuing to follow up on leads, Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Yu said in an email.

Kalua was last seen sleeping at home in Waimanalo, on the east side of the island of Oahu, on the night of Sept. 12, police said.

Volunteers from across the island helped look for her last week, along with city, state, federal and military agencies.

Kalua was adopted by Sonny Kalua and Lehua Kalua in January.

William Harrison, an attorney for the couple, said last week the family has been fully cooperative with police and consented to a full-day search of their home. The family allowed police to retrieve electronic data from home cameras and door equipment, Harrison said.

Harrison said he and police told the Kaluas not to speak about the case because the family has received blocked telephone messages and anonymous social media death threats.

Police described Kalua as white and mixed race. She has brown hair and brown eyes. Police believe she would have been wearing a black hoodie, black leggings, colorful socks and Nike slides with pink bottoms.
