Brown County Epic Mountain Bike Festival

The Big Woods Brown County Epic Mountain Bike Festival is hailed as the best mountain biking experience in the Midwest. Located in Brown County State Park, visitors will experience a variety of cycling events and resources, as well as camping, demonstrations, food trucks, a beer garden, and so much more!

All proceeds will go to the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association, which strives to create more trails in Brown County and across Indiana. The festival will run Oct. 8 through 10.

Special tours set at T.C. Steele State Historic Site

T.C. Steele State Historic Site, 4220 T.C. Steele Road, will be the site of a birthday celebration for James Whitcomb Riley on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 11:15 a.m. to noon.

Celebrate Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley on his birthday with a special tour that celebrates the friendship between T.C. Steele and Whitcomb Riley.

The guided tour will include the House of the Singing Winds and the Large Studio.

Entry is included with site admission.

An evening of ghost story telling will also be held at the T.C. Steele State Historic Site on Monday, Oct. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. Listeners are invited to bring dinner and a blanket as they enjoy famous and local ghost stories. Popcorn will be served.

In the event of rain, stories will be told in the Singing Winds Visitors Center. Members can listen to the stories for free. The cost for adults is $10, seniors tickets cost $8 and tickets for children ages 3 to 17 are $5. Stories are recommended for children ages 8 and over.

Slightly Haunted Puppet Show returns

The Melchior Marionettes will perform a 30-minute Halloween themed show on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15 and 16 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. This show is family friendly and will be performed at the Brown County Playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St.

Tickets are $10 with children under 2 admitted for free. Purchase tickets at browncountyplayhouse.org/buy-tickets or at the Playhouse box office. The box office is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Fall Invitational at Brown County Dragway 

Come down to the Brown County Dragway for their biggest race of the season.

The Fall Invitational will happen from Oct. 15 to 17 and features three days of racing with trick-or-treating Saturday night after races. Cars from all over the country will come together to race in memory of long-time dragway owner Sandy Fields who passed earlier this year.

Spectator cost is $15 per day.

Gates open at 9 a.m. with practice at 10 a.m. and races to follow.

Music center to host “Broadway Fright Night”

Enjoy a fundraising event for Thrive Alliance on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. at the Brown County Music Center, 200 Maple Leaf Blvd.

The show will feature music from five Broadway vocalists paying homage to the theater world’s “most terrifying” characters with music from “Wicked,” “Phantom of the Opera” and more.

Tickets are on sale at browncountymusiccenter.com. Tickets start at $25.

Fall-O-Ween at Deer Run Park

Hayrides, crafts, food and more will be available to enjoy at this year’s Fall-O-Ween on Friday, Oct. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Deer Run Park, 1001 Deer Run Lane.

Attendees are invited to bring chairs and blankets to watch a movie after the festivities.

Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Friendly Forest happening on weekends this month

The Jackson Township Fire Department, 4831 Helmsburg Road, will host trick-or-treating for all ages on Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 22, 23, 29 and 30.

Costumes are encouraged and free candy bags will be provided. Snacks and drinks will also be available for purchase.

Tickets are $1 per child and free for adults accompanying children. All proceeds go to educational programs and training for the department.

Halloween in the Hills

Brown County State Park will celebrate Halloween with festivities including a campground decorating contest, pumpkin carving contest, a “Park After Dark Trail” and more.

The event is scheduled for Oct. 23. More information to come.

Community trick-or-treat set

Brown County Parks and Recreation and the Brown County YMCA are celebrating Halloween by hosting trick-or-treat on the Salt Creek Trail.

The event will be located in the YMCA parking lot in Nashville, 105 Willow St., on Sunday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. Costumes and bags for candy are encouraged.

Parking will be available in the Brown County Music Center parking lot. Trick-or-treaters are asked to enter the Y lot on the trail and walk in one direction through the stations.

This event is a neutral zone and absolutely no political campaigning is allowed.

Parks and rec and the YMCA are also looking for volunteers and candy donations for the trick-or-treat on the Salt Creek Trail event.

Nashville trick-or-treating hours

Nashville will be welcoming trick-or-treaters this spooky holiday.

Trick-or-treating will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31 in town. A “trunk-or-treat” in local parking lots is also planned with more details to come.
