SCHOOL NEWS: School board approves staff changes, donations, policy changes

The Brown County Schools Board of Trustees approved the following on Aug. 5, Aug. 19 and Sept. 2:

  • A $500 donation from the Brown County Inn, Deborah Herring, to the 2021 Governor’s Work Ethic Certificate program.
  • Recommendation to adopt NEOLA special updates for emergency and electronic meetings; nondiscrimination and anti-harassment policy; meeting of the board defined; member participation in meetings through electronic means of communication; meetings during declared disaster emergencies; wellness.
  • Separating Brown County High School Principal Matt Stark, effective Aug. 10. This was not a termination.
  • Separating Brown County Schools bus driver Mark Smith, effective July 30. This was not a termination.
  • Separating Helmsburg Elementary School before school care coordinator Kelly Brown, effective Aug. 31. This was not a termination.
  • Appointing HES preschool teacher Staci Harden, full time with benefits, $18 per hour, effective Aug. 2. This is a replacement for Lydia Voland.
  • Appointing Brown County Middle School assistant football coach John Powell, $1,278 stipend, effective Aug. 2. This is a replacement for Josh Hazelgrove.
  • Appointing Sprunica Elementary School after school care supervisor Candace Latta, part time with no benefits, $14.50 per hour, effective Aug. 4. This is a replacement for Maya Wilkerson.
  • Appointing BCS maintenance employee Jacob Calkins, full time with benefits, $14 per hour, effective Aug. 9. This is a new position.
  • Appointing BCS fifth-grade volleyball coach Jessica Robertson, $1,023 stipend, effective Aug. 2. This is a replacement for Kortney Thalls.
  • Appointing BCS sixth-grade volleyball coach, Jessica Robertson, $1,023 stipend, effective Aug. 2. This is a replacement for Rebekah Bryan.
  • Appointing HES after school care supervisor Taylor Seacat, $14.50 per hour, effective Aug. 2. This is a replacement for Erin Harden.
  • Appointing BCMS special education paraprofessional Amanda Webb, part time with no benefits, $20 per hour, effective Aug. 2. This is a new position.
  • Appointing BCMS seventh-grade volleyball coach Courtney Atak, $1,552 stipend, effective Aug. 2. This is a replacement for Emma Totten.
  • Appointing SES special education paraprofessional Mya Wall, part time with no benefits, $11.25 per hour, effective Aug. 2. This is a new position.
  • Appointing SES non-athletic extracurricular activity positions: Spell Bowl coach Lauren Lockdall; Science Bowl coach Amy Gordon; Math Bowl coach Ben White; High Ability Coach Alyson Hanus; Technology Coach Lindsay Wheeler; Master Teacher Steff Davis; Mentor Teachers Brittany Dunkley, Erika East and Becky Higgins.

  • Transferring BCHS boys basketball coach Amanda Doss to girls junior varsity basketball coach and girls junior varsity volleyball coach. This is a replacement for Daisha Holt.
  • Transferring BCMS seventh-grade volleyball coach Emma Totten to eighth-grade volleyball coach, effective Aug. 2. This is a replacement for Ashley Hawley.
  • Transferring BCMS associate principal Trent Austin to BCHS principal, effective Aug. 9. This is a replacement for Matthew Stark.
  • Transferring HES counselor/mentor teacher Thor Davis to BCMS assistant principal, effective Aug. 9. This is a replacement for Trent Austin.
  • Adoption resolution determining need for projects to be funded by $8 million bond funding.
  • Adoption resolution re-approving forming of building corporation for bond projects.
  • Adoption resolution approving preliminary plans, form of release and authorizing publication of notice of lease hearing.
  • Disclosure of free and reduced information agreement between BCS and the Brown County Weekend Backpacks Inc.
  • Approving the 2021-2022 teacher appreciation grant (TAG) policy.
  • Textbook rental prices for grades K-12.
  • Appointing BCHS fall and winter flag coach Cami Voiles, $772.50 stipend each, effective Aug. 6. This is pending approval of background check. This is a replacement for Lacey Dresslar.
