SCHOOL NEWS: School board approves staff changes, teacher contract for this school year

Staff changes approved by school board

The Brown County School Board of Trustees approved the following personnel changes on Sept. 16, Oct. 14, Oct. 28 and Nov. 4:

  • Separating Sprunica Elementary School paraprofessional Heather Glover, effective Aug. 8. This was not a termination.
  • Separating SES paraprofessional Felicia Branson, effective Sept. 16. This was not a termination.
  • Separating Brown County Schools corporation nurse Holly Gordon, effective Oct. 1. This was not a termination.
  • Appointing Brown County High Schools girls assistant soccer coach Noel Ramirez, group 10, $767.50 split stipend, effective Aug. 31. This is a replacement for Carlie Salisbury.
  • Appointing BCHS girls assistant soccer coach Brittney Ketring, group 10, $767.50 split stipend, effective Aug. 31. This is a replacement for Carlie Salisbury.
  • Appointing Helmsburg Elementary School counselor Skylar Guernsey, level A, $38,000 per year with zero years experience ($30,978 for 2021-2022 school year), full time with benefits, effective Sept. 20. This is a replacement for Thor Davis.
  • Temporary appointment of after school supervisor Candace Latta to part-time special education paraprofessional until Sprunica Elementary School is fully staffed.
  • A $3,500 donation from the Indiana National Guard to the BCHS yearbook extracurricular activity account.
  • An out-of-state field trip for Emily Lewellen, Alecia Adams and the BCHS history club to attend the Ohio Renaissance Festival in Harveysburg, Ohio Oct. 23.
  • Separating SES preschool teacher Catherine Baum-Newlin, effective Oct. 1. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCS elementary school nurse Sherri Rice, effective Oct. 15. This was not a termination.
  • Separating Brown County Middle School social studies teacher Michael Potts, effective Oct. 1. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCMS computer science teacher Bryce Boyer, effective Oct. 22. This was not a termination.
  • Appointing SES special education paraprofessional Brandi Knight, part-time without benefits, $11.25 per hour, four days per week, 180 days per year, effective Sept. 27. This is a replacement for Heather Glover.
  • Appointing Van Buren Elementary School custodian Hawken Wendling, full-time with benefits, $12 per hour, 240 days per year. This is a replacement for Donna Griffith.
  • Appointing BCMS social studies/civics/personal finance teacher Daniel Webb, Level BA-0, $38,000 per year ($28,086.72 for the 2021-2022 school year), full-time with benefits, effective Oct. 15. This is a replacement for Michael Potts.
  • Appointing fifth-grade girls basketball coach Gracie Matlock, $1,023 stipend, effective Oct. 15. There was no coach for the 2020-2021 season.
  • Appointing sixth-grade girls basketball coach Gracie Matlock, $1,023 stipend, effective Oct. 15. This is a replacement for Courtney Hitchcock.
  • Appointng BCMS computer science teacher Lauren Lykins, level BA-0, $38,000 per year ($26,847.60 for the 2021-2022 school year), full-time with benefits, effective Oct. 25. This is a replacement for Bryce Boyer.
  • Correction of Lykins to bachelor’s level B with one year experience, $38,875 per year ($27,466.40 for 2021-2022 school year).
  • Compass Keynote Consulting to provide school corporation governance and leadership consulting Nov. 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022 per agreement.
  • Bus route extension of bus 31, Sarah Payton or Mark Smith, 17.4 extra miles daily at a rate of $8.22 per mile for a total of $143.03 per day, effective Aug. 24.
  • Separating BCS technician William Grimes, effective Nov. 15. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCHS English teacher Allison Crenshaw, effective Nov. 5. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCS corporation bus driver Christina Robertson, effective Oct. 28. This was not a termination.
  • Appointing BCS corporation nurse Elizabeth Hill, 190 days, $50,000 (124 days, $32,631.84 for the 2021-2022 school year), full-time with benefits, effective Nov. 8.
  • Appointing sixth-grade boys basketball coach Jim McFall, group 14, $993 stipend, effective Oct. 14. This is a replacement for Chris Driver.
  • Appointing fifth-grade boys basketball coach Joshua Hawley, group 14, $1,023 stipend, effective Oct. 14. This is a replacement for Jackson Saylor.
  • Appointing seventh-grade boys basketball coach Joshua Caplinger, group 7, $2,302 stipend, effective Oct. 14. This is a replacement for Jackson Saylor.
  • Appointing interim corporation nurse Christine Sullivan, part-time without benefits, $40 per hour, effective Oct. 18.
  • Transferring SES preschool paraprofessional Maya Wilkerson, to SES preschool teacher, $16 per hour, full-time with benefits, effective Oct. 25. This is a replacement for Catherine Baum-Newlin.
  • The 2021-2022 collective bargaining agreement between the Brown County Educators’ Association (BCEA) and school board.
  • Non-certified staff raises retroactive to July 1.
  • Administrative raises, not including the superintendent, retroactive to July 1.
  • Addition of one period a day for BCHS choir teacher Kristi Billings at her daily rate, effective Nov. 8 through the end of the 2021-2022 school year.
  • Appointing BCHS wrestling coach Justice Guerrero, $4,134 stipend, group 2, effective Nov. 1.
  • Appointing BCHS girls freshman basketball coach Matt Noriega, $2,606 stipend, group 5, effective Oct. 27.
  • Appointing Billings as BCMS choir teacher, $372.68 stipend, group 20 (2/3), effective Nov. 8.
