Barbara S. Sumner

Barbara S. Sumner, of Nashville, Indiana, passed peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was 89 years old. Her parents, Glen C and Hulda (Hackemeyer) Caldwell and her sisters, Margaret G. Young and Jeanne C Herbhold, and husbands, L. Dale Crandall, James C Schmidt, Clarence Fields, and Carroll Sumner preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Stephen D. Crandall of Nashville, Indiana and Christy Crandall of Tallahassee, Florida, three grandchildren, Matthew (Gabriel) Crandall (Nashville), Riley, and Liam Ralston-Crandall (Tallahassee, Florida), and five great-grand-children, Wyatt, Laura, Kiya, and Zeke Crandall, and Braylan Smith of Nashville, Indiana.

Born March 13, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana, graduated from Broadripple High School in 1950. She attended Antioch College and Butler University. Barbara worked as an editorial specialist at Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Indianapolis for 15 years; and as the receptionist and administrative assistant for Phil Jackson Appliances and the Bond Florist Shop in Nashville. She was a long-time member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Bloomington, Indiana and supporter of WTIU. She was active in the community and always willing to help anyone in need. She had numerous friends and family who cherished her friendship and love. She was rarely alone due to her wonderfully sweet and fun personality. She will be sorely missed.

Memorial donations may be made to the Brown County Humane Society.

A celebration of her life will be conducted at a later date.
