TOWN NEWS: Sewer improvements, town council liaisons approved

Nashville Town Council discussed upgrading a lift station on Wells Drive at the Jan. 20 meeting.

The necessary upgrades to the lift station would total $20,870.34.

Upgrades were originally planned for the summer, but it was determined by the Town Utilities Department that work should be done before then.

The cost will come out of the wastewater fund.

A motion was made to reimburse a customer on the same road who purchased a Roto-Rooter for repairs they thought were their responsibility and not the town’s.

The town had originally said that the clogging issue was the homeowner’s responsibility, but after the homeowner made the repair, it was determined by the town that the clog was in the municipal sewer line.

The customer had requested a $300 credit, the council approved a motion to reimburse them the funds.

Another utility issue at Edge O’ Town Condominiums was also discussed. The condos have had an issue with a drain due to one of the grates being too small for the flow of water it is intended to drain. Water that does not drain has previously flowed into a condo and caused mold on several occasions, town administrator Phyllis Carr said.

A recommendation was made by local excavators to extend a retaining wall on the property for about $4,340.

Council approved the motion to spend the funds to make those repairs.

Also at the Jan. 20 meeting, town council liaisons were appointed by the council. The following council members will report on each topic as follows:

  • Nancy Crocker, president: Arts and economic development;
  • Anna Hofstetter, vice president: Community enrichment, non-motorized transportation, parks
  • Jane Gore: Planning and zoning
  • David Rudd: Public works (water, sewer and roads)
  • Tyra Miller: Community economic development, business, representation at Brown County Chamber of Commerce and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Crocker noted that these assignments are to divide up responsibilities and that there is more each member will focus on outside of these specific topics.
