A Brown County High School student passed away last week.

Justin Scrougham

Justin Scrougham was a sophomore at the high school. He passed away on Feb. 4. The cause of death is not criminal in nature.

“We are heartbroken over the loss of one of our students at Brown County High School,” Superintendent Emily Tracy said in a press release.

“Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends and the entire community.”

Tracy said the school district will “support our students and families during this time.” Grief counseling for students and staff will be available this week at the high school and will continue “for as long as needed,” according to the press release.

Counselors will be available to meet with students in the high school’s library to help them in dealing with “any feelings they may be having during this difficult time,” Tracy said.

Services were held Feb. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown. The funeral service followed at 1 p.m.
