Dorothy May Ford

Dorothy May Ford, 81, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Dorothy was born on May 8, 1941 in Joliet, Illinois. She was the daughter of Herman Paul and Mildred Alberta Raber.
She graduated from Center Grove High School in 1959 and then attended the Indianapolis School of Practical Nursing. After nursing school, Dorothy began working as a Qualified Medication Aide. She worked as a QMA for over 30 years before she retired.
Dorothy married Norman D. Ford Sr. on Oct. 7, 1960 and he survives. Dorothy and Norman were long-time members of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was a firm believer in God and was an excellent example of faith to her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #24.
Dorothy enjoyed reading, bowling, playing Bingo, and crafting, especially crocheting. She placed her family above everything else and family was the light of her life. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a doting grandmother and great-grandmother.
Dorothy leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Norman D. Ford Sr.; her children, Norman D. (Jean) Ford Jr., Kevin (Stacy) Ford, Belinda Ford, and Tracy (Ray) Bundy; her brother, Robert (Nancy) Raber, sister, Greta Nowling; 11 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Shannon D. Ford; and great-grandson, Cameron Zeigler.
A funeral service for Dorothy will be Friday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel with Larry Calhoun of Shiloh Baptist church officiating. She will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial Donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.
