Local man faces battery charge

A 40-year-old Brown County man faces a Class B misdemeanor for battery after an incident in February.

On Feb. 25, deputies with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department responded to a home on Short Chute Road after a caller advised of a physical domestic situation that had previously occurred.

On scene, Deputy Austin Schonfeld made contact with the victim, who said that Sean Hruban had arrived the night prior, but had left at some point in the morning. The victim said that she had urged him to go to the hospital for treatment for mental health issues.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim told police that he grabbed her by the face with both hands, squeezed and, at one point, covered her mouth.

As officers were about to leave to look for Hruban they reported seeing him walking southbound on Short Chute Road. He approached police and asked why they were there.

Police told them they had been called and asked about the situation. Hruban reportedly denied an incident occurring.

EMS arrived on scene and evaluated the victim, who had a scratch and bruising on her face.

Hruban told police he wanted to go to the hospital for further treatment and was transported by EMS.

Martinsville man faces residential entry charge

A 43-year-old man from Martinsville has been charged with residential entry, a Level 6 felony, after breaking into his parents’ home earlier this month.

Brown County Sheriff’s deputies William Pool and Deputy Austin Schonfeld were dispatched to the 1700 block of Three Story Hill Road on March 3 after callers advised of someone trespassing at their home.

Upon arriving deputies made contact with the property owners who said Jalon Baker broke into the house and was being verbally aggressive, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The callers said Baker was not welcome at their home.

Pool made contact with Baker. He said he arrived at the house around 8 a.m. and assumed his family members were hurt or possibly killed in the home since their doors were locked.

Baker said that he retrieved a splitting maul from the garage and busted the window of the back door, unlocking it and entering into the residence.

Baker said once inside he checked on his family members and realized they were alright. He then made a cup of coffee. He reportedly told police he thought everything was fine.

According to the affidavit, Pool noted Baker’s demeanor going from calm to upset quickly.

Schonfeld spoke with Baker’s family members at the home who said they had given him a ride back to his home the day before.

Baker was arrested for residential entry and transported to the Brown County jail.
