A SALUTE TO COUNTY EMS

You often see them in a time of emergency, when you or a loved one are in need of help.

EMTs and paramedics arrive at your home, at the scene of a crash and other places to help those injured or who are having a medical emergency. They transport patients to the hospital when necessary. They are there to help in the back of an ambulance on the sometimes long trek to the hospital from rural Brown County, caring for patients until hospital staff can take over.

Other times they respond to help someone who has fallen or has an injury to check them out, ensuring a trip to the hospital is not necessary for further treatment.

In other words, local EMS staff are here to care for the residents and visitors here.

The Brown County Democrat visits the EMS Base each spring to take staff photos as a way to recognize National EMS Week for this annual recognition page. National EMS Week was May 15 through 21.

Last month marked one year since Brown County’s emergency medical service provider switched from Columbus Regional Health to Indiana University Health.

Local EMS staff have the same home base, at the EMS building next to the Law Enforcement Center on State Road 46 East. And most of the same staff continue to work here. You will recognize some new and familiar faces on this year’s Salute to EMS pages.
