Section of State Road 135 South to close next week

UPDATE: The Indiana Department of Transportation postponed this closure until later in August. Read more here.

A section of State Road 135 South near Beech Road will close next week as crews with the Indiana Department of Transportation remove and replace a drainage pipe.

INDOT announced the section — in the first curve of 135 South near the Brown County Humane Society — would be closed on, or after, Aug. 1 as crews remove a quadruple drainage pipe under the road and replace it with a new one, a July 25 press release states.

Crews will then backfill the area with concrete, which will require the road to be closed through Aug. 2 when the road is expected to reopen to traffic.

The surface of the road will be rough until patching work can happen later in the week. The project is expected to be complete by Aug. 5, weather permitting.

The State Road 135 South bridge over Kiper Creek — north of Freetown — will remain closed through late August for another replacement project in Jackson County, according to INDOT.

Drivers are reminded by INDOT to slow down, avoid distractions and consider worker safety when driving through active work zones.
