State Road 135 South closure postponed, work to start on 46 West

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced July 27 that the closure planned for a portion of State Road 135 South has been postponed until later next month.

A section of State Road 135 South near Beech Road was scheduled to close next week for a drainage pipe removal and replacement project. A new start date will be announced, a press release from INDOT states.

INDOT also announced on July 27 that a coring and drilling project along State Road 46 in Brown and Monroe counties is scheduled to start next week, resulting in daily lane closures.

Starting next week geotechnical crews will conduct daily lane closures on State Road 46 between State Road 446 near Bloomington and State Road 135 in Nashville. Lane closures will be from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day with flaggers on site to direct traffic, according to INDOT.

Work is scheduled to start in the eastbound lane at State Road 446, moving toward Nashville. Once complete, crews will move to the westbound lane toward Bloomington. Coring and drilling operations are expected to be done by the end of August, the press release states.

All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change.

The State Road 46 project is preliminary work for a future construction project that includes an asphalt resurface on the state highway between State Road 446 and the west junction of State Road 135. The construction project also includes three bridge deck overlays and four small structure replacements. That project is scheduled to go to bid in fall 2024.

Drivers are reminded by INDOT to slow down, avoid distractions and consider worker safety when driving through active work zones.
