Country garden club

The Brown County Garden Club spent their August meeting creating flower arrangements for Brown County Health and Living. Members brought flowers from their gardens and made 35 centerpieces for the facility.

Rotary club

This week the Rotary Club of Brown County will Brown County Pollinators founder Debbie Kelley as the featured speaker at their meeting.

The Aug. 18 meeting will begin at 7:45 a.m. at The Seasons Lodge in the Fireplace Lounge, 560 State Road 46 East. Kelley will discuss monarch butterflies, which currently qualify to be listed as an endangered species. These pollinators are the only insects that migrate like geese and are in danger of extinction because of loss of habitat, use of herbicides and insecticides, and climate change.

Kelley founded Brown County Pollinators, which has restored 100 acres of habitat in Brown County and is endeavoring to restore 100 acres more. Join Rotary this week to learn how you can help.

Kelley has volunteered and held board positions with nonprofits for more than 30 years. She is currently a member of the Brown County Community Foundation and Brown County Weekend Backpacks boards. She is also a Darkness to Light trained facilitator, training people how to recognize and prevent child sexual abuse.

Members of the community, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to the community, are invited to attend in person or on Zoom using a link obtained by visiting www.RotaryClubofBrownCounty.org and clicking on the “Contact us” URL.
