Making waves: Sign up for cardboard boat regatta

Creative cardboard recyclers will have an opportunity later this month to show off their work at the Cardboard Boat Regatta competition.

Brown County Parks and Recreation will host this fundraising event that challenges groups to design and create a cardboard craft that is capable of traversing a portion of Sweetwater Lake.

All proceeds go toward ground upkeep and program improvements for parks and rec.

In previous years, awards given included Most Creative Design, Team Spirit Award, Titanic Award, and Fastest in the County.

Race divisions will be based on the number of boats entered. One boat at a time will race in order to give maximum exposure to the boat and crew. Participants will be individually timed, with the fastest completion with the boat still intact taking first place.

The event is set for Sept. 24 at 11 a.m., with sign in at 10 a.m. Boats must be registered by Sept. 16. Those interested in participating can register at the parks and rec office, 1001 Deer Run Lane, or online at bcparksrec.com/community-events/corrugated-chaos-in-brown-county/.
