Election Day party hosted by GOP

The Brown County Republicans will gather for a dinner and election return party at 6 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 8, at the Seasons Conference Center, 560 State Road 46 East. A pasta and salad bar will be served that includes dessert, ice tea and lemonade.

The cover fee is $10 per person and a cash bar will be available. All Republican poll workers can bring their credentials and enter for free.

Upcoming events planned at library

The Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane, will host several events in October for all ages.

Wednesday, Nov. 9, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Open Play and Family Literacy, family literacy tips from Miss Samantha and open play time for kids ages 0 to 6.

Wednesdays, Nov. 9 and 16, Book Bike will visit the Courthouse at 1:45 p.m., Willow Manor at 2:15 p.m. and Hawthorne Hills at 2:30 p.m. Holds can be placed from the website (BrownCountyLibrary.info/catalog) by selecting “Book Bike” as the location or by calling the Library at 812-988-2850.

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 6 p.m., “Generous Listening,” learn techniques to become a better listener with facilitator Beth Schroeder.

Saturday, Nov. 19, 2 to 3 p.m., “Nature Writing Mini Workshop with Michele Pollock,” exploration of the library and grounds, followed by a writing opportunity led by Brown County author and artist Michele Pollock.

Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 1:30 p.m., “Healthy Habits for Healthy Kids,” Kids can try new foods, experience new flavors and learn about healthy snacks. Class size is limited to 10. For kids ages 6 to 12.

Thursday, Dec. 8, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Game 4 a Change, board, card, and interactive games for ages 12 and up will be available to play. Guests are also invited to bring their own games.

Women’s wine night canceled

WestPoint Financial Group, Mary Kay and NeoLife were to host Women’s Wine Night at Country Heritage Winery, 225 S. Van Buren St., on Nov. 10 but it has been canceled.

The event will be rescheduled for 2023.

Dinner, bake sale, bazaar, quilt raffle

HAMBLEN TWP. — Goshen Community Church, 2798 Gatesville Road, will hold its annual Bean Soup Dinner, Bake Sale, Bazaar and Quilt Raffle on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dinner consists of a bowl of soup, cornbread muffins, cole slaw and choice of dessert and beverage for a $5 donation.

The bazaar includes many handmade items, including kitchen items, crocheted hats and baby items.

The quilt being raffled is a queen size quilt called “Scattered Stars.” It is machine pieced and hand quilted. Drawing for the quilt raffle will be at 3 p.m. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and will be available at the bazaar. For tickets in advance, contact Ruth Fox at 812-988-7892.

Purdue Extension annual meeting

Purdue Extension – Brown County will hold its annual meeting and dinner on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Exhibit Building at the Brown County Fairgrounds, 802 Memorial Drive.

All are welcome to join for a free dinner and a presentation from Peaceful Valley Heritage. The Extension Board and Extension Educator will also share updates of Purdue Extension’s work in Brown County and present several service awards.

Thanksgiving dinner returns in person this year

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner will return to the Brown County High School this year, 235 Schoolhouse Lane, on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The dinner is free to the community and guests must RSVP in advance.

Turkeys are needed at this point in time. All are welcome to donate turkeys at the Brown County YMCA, 105 Willow St.

Become a foster grandparent

Thrive Alliance and AmeriCorps Seniors are currently looking for foster grandparents for children.

Thrive Alliance and AmeriCorps Seniors work with public and faith-based schools, Head Start Centers and youth serving facilities in five counties, including Brown, being role models, mentors, tutors and friends.

Bible studies ongoing in county

The study on biblical discipleship that inspired Fertile Ground Ranch Discipleship Ministry (FGR) will be taught on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The study will be led by Bill Schlipp, FGR founder. The group will meet at the FGR farmhouse on the east side of Brown County. Bring a Bible and a notebook. A study guide will be provided.

Community Bible Study meets on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the chapel at Cornerstone Inn, 54 E. Franklin St.

They will study Job 1 and 2, Peter, Colossians and James.

After individual study during the week, the group will gather for a group discussion, a teaching and commentary.

LEAP applications are now open

Applications are currently open for the 2022-2023 Brown County Leadership Education Adventure Program (LEAP) cohort. The program will begin in October 2022 and continue through April 2023.

LEAP develops leadership skills, creates a network for the study of community issues and allows participants to learn the needs of the Brown County community.

Applications can be picked up at the Career Resource Center, the Brown County Music Center or the Brown County Visitors Center.

Project Lifesaver applications open

TRIAD and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department have announced that applications are now open for Project Lifesaver.

Those with loved ones at risk of wandering would obtain a personalized wrist-watch sized radio transmitter fitted to their wrist that would be used to locate them if they go missing.

This program is available to any Brown County resident due to a grant support from the Brown County Community Foundation and its partners.

Grants available for septic, well repairs

The Great Lakes Community Action Partnership Decentralized Water Systems program recently announced the availability of grants for water well, in-home water treatment and septic system repairs.

The maximum loan amount is $15,000 with a 1% interest rate. The maturity may not exceed 20 years and will depend on repayment ability.

To be eligible for the grant, the applicant’s household income cannot exceed $33,470. In addition, applicants must own and occupy the home or be in the process of purchasing the home for occupancy. New home construction and community water systems are not eligible.

Seasons holiday show announced

The Seasons Holiday Art and Craft Show is planned for Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Seasons Event Center, 506 State Road 46 East.

The annual show began almost 40 years ago. This year’s show will showcase 30 artists and crafters from local and regional studios.

Breakfast, brunch and lunch prepared by the Seasons staff will be available.
