Club news for week of Jan. 10

Rotary Club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet over Zoom at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12.

The guest speaker will be Dax Norton, municipal operations advisor for the Town of Nashville. He will discuss his engagement with Nashville – the problems, the resources, and the constraints he has identified, the solutions he has recommended, and the progress being made in implementation.

Norton has more than 20 years’ experience in municipal planning, strategy, economic development, management and administration. He has been executive director of Boone County Economic Development Corporation, executive director of Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, and town manager of Whitestown, Ind. during a period of extraordinary growth.

Currently, he is municipal administration and management consultant for MS Consultants in Indianapolis as well as principal and owner of Crossroads Municipal Advisors, in which position he serves Nashville.

Norton earned a BS in history from Ball State University, graduated from its Economic Development Institute, and holds a certificate from the Oklahoma University Economic Development Institute. He is a board member of Accelerate Indiana Municipalities and Boone County Economic Development Corporation and former board member of Witham Health Services Foundation and commissioner of Zionsville Redevelopment Commission.

Veterans organizations

Veterans service organizations of Brown County have various meetings throughout the month, all meeting at the Veterans Hall, 902 Deer Run Lane. The Veterans Hall is a government facility and is alcohol free.

Vietnam Veterans of Brown County meet on first Wednesdays.

Veterans of Foreign Wars meet on second Thursdays.

American Legion meets on third Wednesdays.

American Legion Riders (ALR) Group meets on second Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

Bridge and euchre clubs

Brown County Parks and Recreation is currently seeking additional players for its Bridge Club and Euchre Club. Those interested should contact parks and rec at 812-988-5522.

Bluebird club

The Brown County Bluebird Club is again offering fully assembled cedar bluebird nest boxes for $15 each or two for $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.
