Between the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks, the Brown County girls varsity basketball team enjoyed a successful month, winning six of its seven contests.

The Eagles picked up road wins against Mitchell, 68-54 and Eastern Greene, 47-44. Home victories came against South Putnam, 59-37; Owen Valley, 58-52; Cloverdale, 50-16; and West Vigo, 51-26.

The lone blemish was a 68-60 loss to a tough Sullivan team on the road.

Bloomington South, the Eagles’ first opponent of the new year, proved to be too tough for Brown County, taking a 56-31 win from the Eagles on Jan. 3, at Larry C. Banks Memorial Gymnasium.

Lexie Austin was the only Eagle to reach double figures with 10 points.

This past weekend, the Eagles traveled to Elletsville on Jan. 6, to battle conference opponent Edgewood and came away with a 55-41 win.

Three Eagles scored in double digits in the win. Austin had 19, while Ava Stogsdill and Abigail Watson contributed 13 and 10 respectively.

On Jan. 7, the Eagles were on the road again to face another conference foe, the undefeated, state-ranked, Indian Creek Braves.

Brown County could only manage 11 first half points, and the Braves cruised to a 60-33 win. Austin tallied 16 points, and Stogsdill came off the bench to chip in 10.

Brown County is now 9-7 overall and 5-4 in the Western Indiana Conference. The Eagles will visit Greensburg on Tuesday, Jan. 10, and will host Trinity Lutheran on Friday, Jan. 13.
