Library adds service for free legal assistance

The Brown County Public Library is now home to an Indiana Legal Help Kiosk.

Installed in every county in the state, Legal Help Kiosks will initially focus on serving Hoosiers facing eviction or housing instability and will expand to include other legal topics next year.

This self-serve kiosk provides easy access to IndianaLegalHelp.org, an Indiana Bar Foundation program dedicated to connecting Indiana residents to legal resources and services.

The kiosks will allow people to connect with a remote legal housing navigator, access legal information and resources, and apply for rental assistance.

In Indiana, housing evictions are considered a civil matter, so individuals must navigate the legal system on their own.

Legal Help Kiosks provide access to the civil legal system and make the resources on IndianaLegalHelp.org accessible to those that don’t have reliable internet access at home.

The service is free to use and available at the library at 205 Locust Lane during regular business hours, no appointment required.

Call the library at 812-988-2850 for more information.
