The Brown County Volunteer Fire Department was recently given the 2022 funds collected from a special blend of spices made by Nashville Spice Company.

Mark Schmidt and Greg Fox presented a check for $1,705.50 to BCVFD Chief Shawn Fosnight on Feb. 6. Schmidt and Fox are the owners of Nashville Spice Co.

The funds are the 2022 net proceeds from the sale of the spice blend Brown County Fire, which was created especially for the fire department.

The blend was created in 2022 as a way to support the fire department, Fox said via email last week.

The business owners also gave the fire department five cases of the spice to sell at their events, totaling to a value of $2,305.50.

Michele Wedel, a volunteer with the fire department, approached Fox and Schmidt about the idea and Schmidt created the blend.

After some taste testing with some of the firefighters, the recipe was finalized, bottled and sold.

With smoky Alderwood salt, little bit of espresso, brown sugar, molasses, bourbon notes, garlic, onion, and just a little bit of heat from chilis, the blend matches with seafood, steaks, burgers, chicken, pork and more.

“We believe this is a great way to demonstrate to other businesses to be creative to think how they can best support organizations in need,” Fox said.
