PET TAILS: Annual rabies, vaccine clinic coming next month

Just like us, our pets need regular care to make sure they remain healthy. Fortunately, there are some common diseases that can generally be prevented by getting cats and dogs certain vaccines each year.

Next month, the Brown County Humane Society (BCHS) will be holding our annual Rabies and Vaccine Clinic. This clinic provides an opportunity for county residents to get these vaccines at a very low cost. It’s a service provided through our Serving Pets Outreach Team (SPOT) to ensure that our county pets are healthy and safe.

This year’s clinic will be on Sunday, April 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Brown County Music Center. Services available this year include rabies and yearly core vaccines as well as nail trims for dogs and microchipping for both cats and dogs.

All pets are required by law to have an up-to-date rabies vaccine. This clinic provides only a one-year rabies vaccine.

Pets can receive the core vaccines with or without the rabies vaccine for just $10 per pet.

Microchipping will also be offered at the clinic. If your cat or dog gets loose, a microchip is the best way to get him home quickly. Each year, hundreds of lost pets wind up at the shelter and a microchip is the fastest way for the shelter to reunite pets with their families.

The Rabies Clinic will continue the drive-thru approach this year. We ask that everyone remain in their vehicle at all times and volunteers will be on-site directing traffic to ensure an orderly and safe event for both people and animals.

Services are cash only and are available to the first 400 pets (dog or cat) on a first-come, first-served basis. All cats must be in carriers and all dogs must be leashed.

This clinic is open to Brown County residents only.
