Club news for week of April 11

Lions club

The Brown County Lions Club will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 in the lower level of the Brown County Library, 205 Locust Lane. The club will finalize plans for the Spring Blossom Parade on May 6 and the pancake breakfast on May 13. Anyone interested in Lions Club membership is invited to attend.

Rotary club

Brown County Rotary Club will meet Thursday, April 13 at 7:45 a.m. at The Seasons Lodge in the Fireplace Lounge, 560 State Road 46 East.

Amy Oliver, president of the Brown County Board of School Trustees, will be the speaker, addressing the status and direction of the Brown County School Corporation.

Oliver has extensive experience in law, education, and the social service aspects of those disciplines. She served as deputy prosecutor for Domestic Violence in Monroe County, deputy prosecutor for misdemeanors and felonies in Marion County, deputy attorney general for the State of Indiana and as administrative law judge for the State of Indiana.

She has taught social studies at Brown County Junior High School, U.S. history and government and social studies at Columbus Signature Academy and criminal justice at Ivy Tech in Bloomington.

As director of legal services for Turning Point Domestic Violence Services, she trained professionals about legal issues related to advocacy for victims of domestic violence.

Oliver earned a bachelor’s degree from Smith College, did graduate work in journalism while earning a J.D. from Indiana University Mauer School of Law, and completed the Transition to Teaching Program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

Peaceful Valley Heritage

Peaceful Valley Heritage, Inc. will hold its Annual Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 in the Brown County Community Foundation, 209 N. Van Buren St.

Veterans organizations

Veterans service organizations of Brown County have various meetings throughout the month, all meeting at the Veterans Hall, 902 Deer Run Lane.

The Veterans Hall is a government facility and is alcohol free.

Vietnam Veterans of Brown County meet on first Wednesdays.

Veterans of Foreign Wars meet on second Thursdays.

American Legion meets on third Wednesdays.

American Legion Riders (ALR) Group meets on second Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

Brown County Parks and Recreation is currently seeking additional players for its Bridge Club. Those interested should contact parks and rec at 812-988-5522.

Bluebird club

The Brown County Bluebird Club is again offering fully assembled cedar bluebird nest boxes for $15 each or two for $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.
