Fire training to take place at Creekside Retreat

The Brown County Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a live-burn training on Saturday, May 6 and May 7, starting at 8 a.m. both days.

The training will be at the former Creekside Retreat Property located at 2450 State Road 46 East.

Firefighters from more than 25 different organizations participate in the once-in-a-career opportunity. Instructors experienced in apartment fires will be onsite providing their expertise and instruction for students.

This type of training provides a controlled, live-fire experience for Recruit Training and Operations members. All live-fire trainings are conducted in compliance with NFPA 1403 requirements, no exceptions.

NFPA 1403 strictly limits the type and amounts of fuel used. Acquired structures provide a level of realism in training that cannot be replicated in a fixed facility.

“These structures are an incredible learning platform and provide one last community service at the end of their useful life,” a press release from BCVFD said.

“There is no more valuable training opportunity for your BCVFD firefighters.”

This building has been prepared and permitted for burning pursuant to 326 IAC 4-1.

The event is not open to the general public. Participants must have received an invitation to attend.
