Graham ‘Teed’ Howard, age 97 passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 1 at his home in Brown County.

Teed was born January 19, 1926 in Indianapolis, to his parents, the late Fred W. and Helen E. (Wilson) Howard. He was a 1943 graduate of West Lafayette High School and went on to enlist in the United States Army. Teed was a decorated World War II soldier, earning 2 Bronze Stars after serving as a Private First Class with the 581st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. He later was called out of the Reserves and continued to serve as a Corporal with the Army during the Korean War. Teed went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry & Outdoor Education from Purdue University. He retired in 1989 as a Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts of America, where he worked for over 39 years. Teed was a Lifetime Eagle Scout.

After retirement, he stayed busy with working as a Real Estate Agent for Jane Gore Realty in Nashville from 1990-2012. Teed later owned and operated Country Gentleman Real Estate in Nashville for many years. He also worked as a model for Helen Wells Talent Agency in Indianapolis and was the co-owner and operator of Hi-Ho Trading LLC, which made salad dressings.

Teed was a very active member of many organizations in Brown County. He was a longtime member of the New Life Community Church in Nashville, Brown County Rotary, Nashville Masonic Lodge #135, Indianapolis Scottish Rite and the Scottish Society in Bloomington. Teed was also a longtime member of the Nashville American Legion Post 13, where he served on the Brown County Honor Guard for many years.

Teed enjoyed camping, canoeing and working out at the Brown County YMCA. He will be remembered for always being very organized and for reading one book a week that has accumulated to over 2,000 readings. Teed’s true passion was celebrating Native American culture. He was a member of the White Bear Heythuska Society, White Star Gourd Dance Society and several other Native American Associations. Teed would travel and participate as a Gourd Dancer in many powwows. He really enjoyed Native American dancing, as well as, Scottish dancing.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Mary M. (Wallace) Howard, whom he married on March 15, 1997 in Nashville. Teed is also survived by his children, Tom (Robin) Howard of Minnesota and Stephanie Howard of North Carolina; step-daughter, Sherry (Tim) Hibschman of Brown County; several grandchildren, great grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Jeannie Howard; and his second wife, Sue Ann Howard.

Pastor RJ Butler will conduct a funeral service at 7 p.m. on Friday at the New Life Community Church, 1450 State Road 135 N. in Nashville. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Military rites will be presented by the United States Army and the Brown County Honor Guard. Services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
