Brownie

Hello Brown County!

Wow, slow down! You guys are bombarding me with questions and hey, a private eye only has so many hours a day when he’s not … well, doing the things private eyes do! (And this is a family newspaper, so let’s just leave it at that!)

Just in case you’ve missed the last few weeks, then let me share with you that I am BC, the Brown County Connection – but you can call me Brownie for short. I’m a new feature in your favorite Brown County weekly and what I do is answer questions. Your questions.

Each week you send me question and I go straight to the source and get the answers. How’s that work? Well, see the trench coat and fedora above? I’m just like the old gumshoes from the past – Sam Spade, Philip Marlowe, Thomas Magnum … yeah, OK, maybe not the last one. But hey, you get the idea.

Still, I’m here to answer your questions – and what great questions you ask! The first week we had a good one about who maintains private roads and last week – snakes alive! – we had a question about the old serpentarium.

This week is a question from Judy Schlipp: What happened to “Abe Martin Days,” which was formerly celebrated around this time a few years ago. We especially miss the outhouse races, which raised money for a nonprofit that benefited people in need in the community.

Well, Judy, Brownie didn’t have to go too far to get this one. The Brown County Democrat’s own Larry Hanson provided the answer.

“The “We Care Gang” raised funds with the “Abe Martin Picnic featuring the Nashcar Outhouse Races.” Ted Frost of the Masons and myself for the Brown County Lions Club were contacted by Jim and given all the components of the Outhouse Races in case we wanted to continue them, but the We Care Gang didn’t have enough manpower to keep them going. Both the Masons and the Lions Club could not muster enough help either, so the memberships voted not to continue, at least for this year.

So there you go, Judy. You asked, Brownie answered! And the old saying must be true, there is no rest for the wicked, or was the weary? I always get that mixed up. Anyways, you guys are filling up my inbox so let me get back to work on next week’s question. And if you’ve got a burning question, send it to me in care of [email protected]
