Habitat for Humanity Does it AGAIN

0

For the second time this year, ground was broken by the Board of Brown County Indiana Habitat for Humanity (BCIHFH), for a home located just outside Nashville. The agency is hoping to finish this home by Christmas, for a family of five, which includes three young children, ages 11, 9 and 6.

The family is currently living in a two bedroom, one bathroom home so their daughter is excited to finally have her own room. The father is employed full-time and when they tried to buy a home with a mortgage from the bank, the cost was prohibitive. A friend encouraged them to apply with Habitat and they were blessed by being accepted. According to the father, they love the location and neighborhood, with friends of the children living nearby.

They are grateful for everything BCIHFH has done and are actively participating in building the home.

BCIHFH sells the home to a family with no interest charged and for the appraised value, but the payment is based on their ability to pay with the difference between the appraised value and construction cost converted to a “Promissory” Note which the family does not pay and is forgiven after 10 years of residency. This home is the 23rd home built by BCIHFH in Brown County since it began in 1990. The agency is proud that it has the capacity to build two homes in such a short amount of time.

An average Habitat home costs the organization approximately $150,000 that is made possible with the help of multiple volunteers, many businesses, grant monies and individual donations. Some federal funding was made available for homes 22 and 23, but due to more stringent requirements and new regulations, small rural communities no longer qualify.

BCIHFH is searching for members of the Brown County community to donate funds for future homes and affordable land with infrastructure. And of course, volunteers are needed to build, furnish meals for the builders, or serve on a committee such as finance, homeowner selection, family nurturing, publicity, or Brush with Kindness.
