COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Clara Ellen Fleming Rose, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 11:53 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at her daughter’s home at the age of 85.

Clara was born in Brown County, Indiana, December 26, 1938, the loving daughter of Reasy and Gledith West Smith. On December 5, 1964, Clara married George Neal Fleming; he preceded her in death in September 25, 1983. Clara later married Everett C. Rose on March 16, 1985; he died November 17, 2018.

A homemaker, Clara provided childcare for many years. She was a faithful member of North Salem Community Church and she enjoyed reading, animals, gardening and her girls outings with her sisters and her aunt.

Clara’s life will be cherished by her children, Bill (Debbi) Fleming, Candace (Mike) Watson and Troy (Amanda) Fleming all of Columbus; grandchildren, George Fleming, Michelle (Tyson) Matney, Makenzie (Shane) Rasnick, Matthew Watson (Elizabeth Krell), Rhett (Janelle) Fleming and Wyatt (Maddie) Fleming; great-grandchildren, Connor, Emmalyn and Hudson Matney; siblings, Ivan Smith of Taylorsville, Jerry (Risa) Smith of Norman, Elma (Ron) Trendelman of Columbus and Lois (Don) Suiter of Shelbyville; many nieces and nephews; and her pets, pup, Babydoll and a herd of cats.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Reasy and Gledith Smith; husbands, George Neal Fleming and Everett C. Rose; and brothers, Alva Smith and Willard Smith.

The funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike: Pastors Alan and Jodi Sladek officiated.

Family and friends gathered for visitation from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Clara was laid to rest in the Garland Brook Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to North Salem Community Church, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
