Dorval P. Freese Chatham, a resident of Brown County, passed from this life at 9:25 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024, at her home at the age of 93.

Mrs. Chatham was born in Brown County, Indiana, March 22, 1930, the ninth child born to Roy and Ona Hardin Roberts. Dorval married Paul Freese; he preceded her in death in November 1980. She later married Dallace Chatham; he preceded her in death 2004.

Mrs. Chatham was a 1948 graduate of Brown County High School. She had been the secretary at Beltone Hearing Care Center and she provided home care giving for many years.

She was a longtime faithful member of Gnaw Bone Wesleyan Church and she was a volunteer at Columbus Regional Hospital. In her younger years, she and her husband, Paul, enjoyed caring for their large garden, tending to their beautiful flowers and immaculate yard. Mrs. Chatham always enjoyed canning, making pies and cooking for her family and friends. She also enjoyed hosting family and friends in her home to enjoy her hospitality. She loved her family, especially her grandkids. Mrs. Chatham had a passion for traveling, bird watching and her little red truck. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and she will be missed by all who loved her.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Paula (Phillip) Denbo of Bloomington; stepson, Rick (Sheryl) Chatham of Columbus; grandchildren, Lindsay (Tim) Sanabria, Megan (Bryan) Miller and Michelle (Oscar) Jimenez; step-grandchildren, Joanna (Lemul) Young and Zachary Chatham; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Preston, Emma, Isaiah, Eli, Clayton, Mya and Javier; step-great-granddaughter, Lennon; brother, Kenneth (Gail) Roberts of Columbus; her friend, Budd Dunn of Edinburgh; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Chatham was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Michael L. Freese; grandson, Chad P. Denbo; and siblings and spouses, Sonny Robets, Perry Roberts, Eugene (Alice) Roberts, Raymond (Doris) Roberts, Lester (Beryl) Roberts, Chester (Mary) Roberts, Mabel (John) Lucas, Lena (Arnold) Mullis, Donald (Dorothy) Roberts and Ernest (Katherine) Roberts.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street, Columbus; the Reverends Bob England and David Gates will officiate. The funeral service will livestream at barkesweaverglick.com.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday. Mrs. Chatham will be laid to rest next to her first husband, Paul Freese, at the Garland Brook Cemetery.
