Brown County Schools introduce new TED-Ed club

Brown County Schools are changing the lives of students in all grades by introducing a new club, TED-Ed, into their schools. The TED-Ed club is an impactful opportunity for all who participate in the Saturday, May 18 event, but even more so for the Brown County students.

This club creates a learning environment that gives students a place and time to speak their minds on something that they are passionate about.

TED-Ed is also a club that is introduced to our Brown County Elementary students which allows them access to the same opportunity as the high school. In an interview with teacher and TED-Ed leader at Sprunica Elementary, Erica East, she mentions that all grades K-5 were introduced to the TEDx event. The students have weekly meetings after school to discuss the development, designs, and how to share their topics with an audience.

“I think it’s important for students to learn about TED-Ed right now because too often students feel their voices only matter if it is on topics chosen by teachers or family members,” East said. “In this club, they choose the topic. They choose their passion.”

Club members and high school juniors Ella Shultz and Noah Lewis share what they’ve learned and how they hope to grow from the club.

“I hope this club will teach me to be a better writer and to become more confident when speaking in front of an audience,” Shultz said. “I think this club will impact other students because once the club grows throughout the months people will want to be a part of this awesome community.”

Lewis had a different perspective.

“I joined the club originally to have a great club to add to my college resume but now that I’ve gone to a few meetings I want to explain to the people the true meaning of leadership,” Lewis said. “I feel like I’ve already had strong public speaking skills. However, I feel this club will only further enhance those skills as well as how I’ve learned to write about what I’m passionate about and how to express it.”

While TEDX is a community event, students and staff are working hard to show just how impactful this club is in the schools. That includes offering example speeches to elementaries as well as allowing all students to pick a subject they are passionate about showing off to an audience.

Brown County Schools is changing the lives of their students with this club and it’s an exciting start to the TEDX future.
