“We try to specialize in the best quality,” Niehans said. “We carry hats from England, Scotland, Ireland; Stetson is exclusively an American company. In addition to that on the western side we also custom crease hats. We will also clean, block and reshape them as well.”

Head Over Heels carries many different styles of westerns perfect for the summer including straw, wool and fur. They also carry feathers and hat-bracelets so you can give your hat a unique touch.

Even if you do not know what you are looking for specifically, the Niehans’ will help you find your perfect hat in their vast and colorful selection.

“We have a saying here, ‘you don’t find a hat, the hat finds you’ and so you just have to try them on until you find that perfect one,” Niehans said. “What we do when a person comes in and says they want a hat, ask qualifying questions like what are you going to be doing when you’re wearing this, are you an outdoor person, do you want to have it for dress up. Then you take their body and facial shapes and kind of try to match it up. We try to have sizes from extra small to triple extra large.”

Hats are great multi-purpose accessories. While some are better in colder months for heat regulation, there are others made for those extra sunny and hot days.

“Sun protection is all about summer hats. There are ones specifically designed for people with skin conditions in mind. They have the UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) ratings listed.” Niehans said.

Head Over Heels sells summer caps that are lined with recycled marine plastic. They come in silk or linen and are very cooling for the summer. There are other mesh, ventilated options as well.

“We are just waiting to see what the effect of Beyonce wearing hats is going to be. She’s wearing cowboy hats. That’s going to change things (new demographics). We’ve had a lot of activity in fedoras because of young people being into them.” Niehans said.
